CHRIST-CENTERED
At Fairlane Alliance Church, our mission begins as we seek to be a "Christ-centered, community focused team of joyful believers
"
What do we mean by "Christ-centered"?
We mean that
-The primary relationship we promote is a relationship with Jesus Christ.
-The primary characteristic we want to see developed in peoples lives is Christ-likeness.
-Our primary reference point for all that we are and do is Christ!
COMMUNITY-FOCUSED
While are roots are in Christ, our reach is to the community.
What are we doing or planning to do that will mark our church as "community focused"?
We are focusing on the following areas of community life.
1. THE POOR (HOMELESS)
While our deacons and/or pastors provide help to individuals on a weekly basis, we also have a ministry to the Wayne County Shelter. Every week we provide bus transportation to our second worship service, followed by a Sunday lunch. Also, once a quarter we pick up all who want to come and enjoy a family meal in our fellowship hall. Music, entertainment for the kids, and a gospel presentation in some form is provided.
We also participate in Samaritan’s Purse’s, "Operation Christmas Child" each Christmas season. In November, church families are asked to prepare "care boxes" for children around the world. Our church serves as a collection center for this area. These boxes are then sent to a major distributing point to be flown all over the world and delivered personally by volunteers in the name of Jesus. Our Operation Christmas Child coordinator is Peni Kulik, who can be reached at 313-485-1743.
2. COMMUNITY EVENTS
Our church is an active participant in three of Dearborns bigger community events- Art on the Avenue (+ the food festival and auto show) in June, Homecoming in August, and Holiday on the Avenue in November. We see each event as an opportunity to positively represent our church to the community. At each event we provide activity or refreshment booths, provide free information and goodies, and by our small acts of kindness share the love of Christ. For Art on the Avenue, we even host an Outdoor Service!
We eventually hope to host our own event for the community called the Ford Field Bash" at which we will provide refreshments and games and an opportunity to discover more about Christ and/or our church. We are also interested in connecting with Tom Demerly of BikeSport regarding co-sponsoring a Bike Race in the city of Dearborn. Again, the idea is to positively connect with our community as well as provide information in a creative way that gets people thinking about Christ!
3. THE NEIGHBORHOOD
Several events and ministries, either existing or planned, are designed to include our body specifically inviting those in our sphere of influence to come and participate with them. These include:
a. The Alpha Course- a ten week dinner, talk, and small group discussion format offered on Tuesday night for all who want to explore the claims of Christ without pressure. This ten week course is offered three times a year (Fall, Winter, and Spring)
b. Childrens Easter Event-This year was the first such attempt that we hope will grow bigger and better each year as our children invite friends to a special Saturday outreach.
c. Arab Childrens Parties- Three parties a year that includes games, crafts, dinner, and a special presentation for our friends and neighbors from the Arab community.
d. Pumpkin Patch Blast- This long-standing event has provided kids with an opportunity to come to the church during the Halloween season and eat, play games, and collect candy. Last year, we added a specific gospel presentation to the party atmosphere. This year, we would like to hold the event the day before (or after) the communitys celebration of Halloween so as to draw in as many community kids as possible! (And to afford families who desire such, the opportunity to be a positive testimony in their neighborhoods on Halloween night.)
4. THE INNER CITY
We are assisting in the redevelopment of the Detroit Central Alliance Church. Our own Greg and Kathy Varano are serving as part-time pastor.
We have also developed a fresh ministry in the inner city with John and Janell Meyers, formerly of Akron Youthquake. With the support of Fairlane, John and Janell formed a team and began a full-time ministry, Acts 29, in Hamtramck.
The Christian and Missionary Alliance began in the late 1800s as a missionary movement of peoples from many different evangelical denominations. As the movement began to grow it eventually became a denomination, but always with the heart to be a movement committed to Christ, the balanced Christian life lived out in the power of the Holy Spirit, and world missions.
Presently there are about 400,000 people who attend approximately 2,000 Alliance churches throughout the United States. There are another 18,000 Alliance churches and preaching points, ministering to several million people in 75 countries of the world, and led by 800+ full time missionaries and thousands of national pastors.
For a much more detailed look at the Alliance throughout the world, please go to www.cmalliance.org. This site will contain links to all Alliance churches in the United States as well as world- wide information.
At FAC we dont want to just talk about the world, however, we want to get involved in reaching it.
Each fall we offer our Annual Missions Festival designed to expose our people to the exciting things God is doing around the world.
Each year, at least one opportunity is given for adults and for youth to go on a cross-cultural, short- term, mission trip. This year youth from of our church have been in Mexico and adults have served in Guatemala and Mexico.
If you are interested in our Festival or going on a short-term trip, please let us know!
